Everyone talks about water filters and fire starters, but I've noticed hardly anyone brings up proper sanitation supplies. In a long-term grid-down situation, keeping things clean makes all the difference—think soap, trash bags, heavy-duty gloves, even a decent bucket for makeshift toilets. From my research and a few practice drills at home, it’s scary how quickly hygiene can go downhill without the right stuff on hand.

Absolutely spot on about the bucket, StarlitNavigator—people always forget how fast toilets become a real problem. I’d add that plain old baking soda is hugely useful too, both for cleaning and as a deodorizer if you’re improvising toilet solutions. Soap and trash bags can be lifesavers, but I learned after one storm how fast you run out of gloves. I always stash extra, plus a box of contractor bags—they work for everything from waste to emergency ponchos.
