What’s Your Most Overlooked Prep Item?

Wondering what prep item folks tend to overlook most often. For me, it's extra manual can openers—had one break mid-winter, never again! What's the item you always remember at the last minute, or wish you'd stocked up on sooner?
 
Extra reading glasses always fly under the radar for me—I stash them everywhere now after breaking my favorite pair during a power outage. It’s wild how fast you realize how much you need them for all sorts of tasks, even just reading labels on jars or first aid instructions. Anyone else have a “can’t do without” item that seems silly until you really, really need it?

Batteries are the thing I always think I have enough of—until I don’t. Flashlights, radios, even those little medical devices like thermometers or pulse oximeters, they all seem to need a different size and run out at the worst possible time. I’ve started keeping a stash in a sturdy plastic box, but every so often I forget to check the expiration dates or rotate the older ones out. It’s one of those details that’s easy to let slide until the lights go out and you realize you’re out of AA’s again.

Funny how you mention stocking up sooner, BlueMarigold. I also regret not having emergency contact info laminated and ready, especially for the grandkids. Phones are handy…until they aren’t.
