What’s Your Most Underrated Prep That Paid Off?

Hardly anyone talks about bulk calcium hypochlorite for water purification, but it’s been a real game changer here. What’s the prep you invested in that seemed minor but made a big difference when things got tough?
 
Thermal curtains for the win. I know it sounds simple, but after a nasty winter power outage a few years ago, those things absolutely saved the day. They kept in what little heat we had from a propane heater and blocked drafts better than anything else I’d tried. Absolutely, those heavy curtains keep my kitchen so much cooler in July, I almost don’t need the fan running. I picked up a couple at a thrift store and couldn’t believe the difference just in how quickly the room heats up—or doesn’t. Funny how we overlook stuff like that until we really need it. Anyone else swap them out seasonally or just keep them up year-round?
