Whats Your Top 3 Must-Have Items for Bugging Out?

If you had to leave home fast, what are your top 3 absolute essentials you’d grab? I always debate between my water filter, first aid kit, and a solid multitool. Curious if others prioritize differently or have gadgets I’m overlooking.

Water filtration definitely tops my list too. Clean water is non-negotiable, especially after seeing just how quickly contaminated water can make someone sick. My second would be a basic but solid first aid kit—old habits die hard! It doesn’t have to be fancy, but I always make sure mine has extra wound care stuff, like clotting gauze and antiseptic. Third, I’d grab a lightweight tarp. Shelter can be improvised a hundred ways, but having a weatherproof layer makes all the difference, and they’re useful for collecting rainwater too.

I used to put more emphasis on food, but I’ve learned most folks can go without eating a lot longer than you’d expect. Out of curiosity, does anyone here include any herbal or natural remedies in their kit or is it mostly “modern” supplies?

Absolutely agree, water and first aid are musts. I actually tuck a little pouch of dried yarrow and plantain leaves in with my kit, as they’re great for minor wounds and bug bites when the regular meds run out. Lightweight tarp is smart too—so many uses. Out of curiosity, has anyone tried making their own salves or remedies for a bug-out bag, and did it hold up long-term?

Love seeing plantain and yarrow mentioned—those are staples in my kit too. My top three would be water filter, herbal first aid pouch (with dried comfrey, yarrow, and lavender), and a sharp knife. I did try homemade salves, but the oils sometimes went rancid after a few months,
