What’s Your Top Must-Have Item for Bug Out Bags?

If you could only pick one absolute essential for your bug out bag, what would it be? I always debate between a solid water filter and a fixed blade knife. Curious what everyone else prioritizes and why.

Can’t really go wrong either way, but for me, it’s always got to be a sturdy water filter. I can whip up basic remedies from wild plants and carry a blade for foraging, but clean water’s just not negotiable if you want to stay healthy

I lean towards the water filter too—can’t do much without clean water, even with the best knife in your kit. Ever tried boiling water in a pinch, TeaTimeTalisman? It’s such a hassle compared to just filtering.

Can’t argue with the value of clean water—without it, you’re in real trouble fast. I’ve always leaned toward a water filter as my top pick, too. Sure, a knife is versatile but you can improvise tools a lot easier than you can make dirty water safe to drink, especially on the move. Anyone ever tried those chemical tablets for water? Curious how they stack up in taste and reliability compared to filters.
