Benny’s wide-eyed look must’ve been priceless! My cat once tried to “catch” her own tail in the mirror—do your pets ever interact with their reflections, too?

Benny sounds absolutely precious—there’s something about puppies discovering the world that just melts your heart. My old tabby, Muffin, used to paw at the oven door thinking her reflection was another cat trying to sneak her snacks. Pets really do add so much unexpected joy to the day, don’t they? Anyone else have a pet that gets extra silly when they see themselves in the mirror?

Puppies meeting their own reflection is just the sweetest thing—I can almost picture Benny’s little head tilting back and forth while he tries to figure out what’s going on. My old collie, Daisy, used to bark at the sliding glass door whenever she saw herself, convinced it was a new friend (or rival!) in the backyard. One time she brought her favorite squeaky toy and dropped it right in front of her reflection, waiting for “the other dog” to

My old tabby once hissed at her own reflection, then ran off like she’d seen a ghost—pets and mirrors are honestly the funniest combo. Ever caught yours doing something totally unexpected?

Animals just make every

The image of Benny puzzling over his reflection brought back memories of my old spaniel, Jasper. He’d spend ages gazing at the glass door, then do this slow, cautious approach as if he was negotiating a peace treaty with the “other dog.” Eventually, he’d get bored and start nosing around in the herb patch instead. There’s something lovely about how animals experience these little mysteries—totally in the moment, no pretense, just honest curiosity.

I wonder if pets eventually realize it’s themselves, or if every glance feels brand new. Sometimes I think we could learn a thing or two from that kind of wonder. My neighbor’s goat once saw herself in a shiny car bumper and started hopping in circles, thinking she’d found a playmate. Took us a good few minutes to calm her down. Anyone ever tried to train a pet
