Best Ways to Purify Water Without Electricity?

Boiling’s my usual go-to, but that’s not always practical without power. Anyone have solid experience with gravity filters or solar disinfection methods? Looking for something reliable for larger volumes if the grid’s down long-term.

Gravity filters like Berkey or Sawyer systems have served me well for larger batches, especially since you don't need pressure or power—just time. Solar disinfection (SODIS) with clear bottles is good for small quantities, but it's pretty slow and not great for turbid water. If you plan to treat a lot at once, gravity filters are more

I've had the same experience—gravity filters work best for larger batches, especially when there's no power around. SODIS is intriguing, but like you said, it's really only practical for small amounts and clear water. I always wonder about folks relying on cloudy water for SODIS; that just doesn’t seem safe long-term. Have you ever tried layering sand or charcoal before gravity filtering? Sometimes I worry about those fine particles gumming things up.
