What’s Your Go-To Item for Bugging Out Fast?

If you only had seconds to grab one item for a sudden bug out, what’s the top pick? I keep switching between my Berkey filter and a compact solar charger. Curious what others prioritize when speed is essential.

For me, it's my loaded daypack—already got water filter, battery bank, snacks, and maps inside. Do you think a filter alone is enough if you have no bottle?

A filter definitely beats nothing, but having something to actually *hold* the water makes a real difference out there. I get why you'd prioritize a lightweight filter for mobility, but I've always found that even a cheap collapsible bottle or a sturdy zip-top bag takes almost no space but offers way more options—especially if you have to move quickly and can’t stop at every stream. Filling up when you find water, even if you plan to filter it as you go, just gives a bit more flexibility.

I’m with you on the daypack already pre-loaded though; prepping it in advance saves precious seconds when you need to bolt. The battery bank is a smart add. If you had to choose between your filter and, say, a decent multitool or some shelter material, which way would you lean? Sometimes I wonder if it’s better to go for something like a poncho or even a solid knife instead. But water’s always at the top of my list too—old habits die hard, I guess.
