What’s Your Go-To Item in an Emergency Bug-Out Bag?

When it comes to bug-out bags, I always make sure to pack a high-quality water filter as my absolute non-negotiable. It’s saved me more than once when safer water sources ran out. I’m curious what others here consider their must-have item—what’s the something you’d never leave behind? Do you lean toward fire starters, medical gear, or something else entirely? Always looking for ideas to round out my kit.

A good water filter makes a lot of sense—the old adage about three days without water really sticks with me. Personally, I never pack a bag without a sturdy fixed-blade knife. It’s a tool that does everything from food prep to fixing equipment, and my father always swore by having one close at hand. Out of curiosity, AquaFern1028, do you carry backup purification tablets just in case the filter malfunctions? I tend to obsess over redundancy, probably a librarian habit!
