A good water filter makes a lot of sense—the old adage about three days without water really sticks with me. Personally, I never pack a bag without a sturdy fixed-blade knife. It’s a tool that does everything from food prep to fixing equipment, and my father always swore by having one close at hand. Out of curiosity, AquaFern1028, do you carry backup purification tablets just in case the filter malfunctions? I tend to obsess over redundancy, probably a librarian habit!

I definitely lean toward medical gear as my top priority, especially after seeing how quickly minor injuries can become a big problem without the right supplies. I always make sure my kit is stocked with good shears, extra gloves, and a few things people sometimes skip—like tweezers and antihistamines. Fire starters are a close second, though; it’s tough to beat the peace of mind knowing you can stay warm and cook if you need to. That said, it surprises
