Best Affordable Ways to Start Stockpiling Food?

Looking to seriously beef up my pantry without breaking the bank. For those who’ve been at this a while, what foods do you start with when money’s tight? I know rice and beans are classic, but are there overlooked staples that store well and don’t cost much? Interested in both bulk purchases and anything homegrown or homemade that lasts. All tips or experiences much appreciated, especially on getting quality food without spending a fortune.

Bulk oats have been my go-to besides rice and beans—super cheap, fill you up, and last ages in good buckets. Canned veggies (store-brand) go on sale a lot, and they stretch meals when you’re low on fresh stuff. I also dry my own apples and carrots when they’re in season; cheap upfront and no freezer required. Ever tried canning your own soups? Way more flavor and value than most store tins.
