Curious what everyone thinks are the absolute essentials for long-term food storage, especially for families with kids. What staples do you keep besides the usual rice and beans? Looking for ideas beyond the basics that actually have decent shelf life and nutrition.

Oats are a big one for me as they last ages if kept dry and are pretty versatile—you can make porridge or grind them for baking. I also like to keep lentils on hand; they cook faster than most beans and offer a lot of protein

Dried fruits and nuts are worth considering, PrepperLinda65—lots of nutrition packed in there, and they’ll keep a good while if stored well. Ever tried powdered eggs or shelf-stable tofu? Both are handy for protein variety.
