Extra canning lids are so smart—I’ve kicked myself more than once for not having enough in late summer. One thing I’d add is old-fashioned bar soap, not just the liquid stuff, since it stores forever and comes in handy for both cleaning and barter. I also keep a stash of sturdy twine and cloth scraps for garden ties or repairs. Seeds are a must, but storing heir

Bar soap’s a classic—never thought about using it for barter, but that makes sense. I’m with you on the twine too; you can never have enough of the stuff, especially when things start falling apart.
