Best Low-Tech Cooking Methods for Power Outages?
With all the weather events lately, I’ve been looking into more reliable, low-tech ways to cook during power outages. I’ve used a rocket stove and solar oven before, but I’m curious what others have found most efficient, especially when fuel or sunlight might be limited.
For those who’ve dealt with extended outages, what’s worked best for you? Cast iron dutch ovens over coals? Makeshift grills? I’m aiming for methods that don’t require fancy gear or a big stash of propane. Bonus if it’s something that’s easy to set up for a whole family and doesn’t demand a ton of wood.
Also, any tips for indoor-safe options would be much appreciated. I know carbon monoxide is a real risk, so I tend to avoid anything with open flame inside, but maybe there are alternatives I’ve missed. Looking forward to hearing real-world experiences and any creative setups folks have tried—especially ones that keep meals simple but filling.
