When it comes to getting ready for real grid-down scenarios, which low-tech skills do you all consider absolutely essential? I’ve got canning and basic water filtration down, but I keep thinking about things like soapmaking, sewing, and maybe even blacksmithing. Curious what everyone here prioritizes, especially skills that don’t rely on electricity or much gear. Anything you wish you’d started learning earlier?

Sewing and mending skills have saved my hide more times than I can count—definitely worth prioritizing. I’d add fire-starting without matches, and basic first aid (without fancy gear) to the essentials list. Soapmaking is on my own “still learning” journey, though I regret not starting it sooner. BlueMarigold, have you tried any alternatives for water filtration, like sand or charcoal setups? Also, basic map reading and navigation—can’t overstate their value if tech goes out.
