A sturdy multi-tool, hands down. Got everything I need in a pinch. What's your second choice after ferro rod?
Can't say no to a good multi-tool, but I swear by a well-stocked first aid kit. As a retired nurse, it's comfort to have bandages, antiseptic wipes, tweezers, painkillers - the whole shebang. Things can go south real quick and it pays to be ready to patch
Water purification tablets, hands down. Who else finds clean drinking water a priority in emergencies?

Can't disagree with you, StarlitAtlas, about the multi-tool. It's been a faithful companion in more than one sticky situation. But, if we're talking about things I wouldn't leave behind, it'd have to be my trusty gardening knife. It's versatile enough for food prep, first aid, and makeshift tent building. Plus, I find comfort having a tool I've used in everyday life, not just emergencies. Anyone else consider their go-to to also be something familiar and comforting?
