Best Ways to Store Water Long-Term—What Actually Works?

I’ve been rotating water in food-grade barrels for years but always wonder if there’s a better, lower-maintenance method. Anyone had long-term success using stabilized methods (Sodium hypochlorite, UV, etc.) without weird taste or algae? Really want to cut down on unnecessary work and waste.
 
I’ve had luck with plain bleach (unscented, regular kind) – about 1/4 teaspoon per gallon, seal it up tight in food-grade containers, and I haven’t noticed any weird taste after a year. Kept mine in the basement, out of light, and no algae or cloudiness so far. Never tried UV though—cur
 
Storing water with a bit of unscented bleach has worked for me too, and I’ve noticed less of that “plastic” taste when I use glass jugs, though they’re heavier and take up more space. I’ve read using stabilized oxygen is another option, but haven’t tried
