Best Ways to Store Water Long-Term Without Chemicals

Looking to store water long-term, but I want to avoid using bleach or any other chemicals if possible. I've read about using glass or food-grade plastic containers, but not sure how well water keeps just by boiling and sealing it. Are there certain containers or methods that really work best for keeping water safe over a year or more, without additives? Would love to know what others have tried and what kind

Glass jugs work really well if you’ve got the space and can keep them out of sunlight. I boil the water, let it cool, then pour it in and seal tight—usually with new lids to avoid any contamination. If you can store them in a cool, dark spot, I’ve had water stay fresh a year or more this way. Anybody here tried clay or ceramic containers for this? I’ve been curious if they’d work just as well.

Glass is definitely my go-to as well—old-school but super reliable if you can keep it out of the light. I’ve also stored boiled water in stainless steel containers with decent success, especially for bigger batches, though they’re harder to move around. Tried ceramic crocks once, but they tend to let some air in unless they’ve got a really solid seal. Has anyone managed to keep water fresh in a rain

Boiled water sealed in glass jars lasts me over a year too, but I always date them just in case. Anyone ever had issues with glass breaking from temp changes in storage?

Boiling and sealing in glass jars does the trick if you’re careful to use truly clean, sterilized containers and new lids—just like canning fruit, really. The key is keeping them away from light and big temperature swings, since that seems to be when odd flavors creep in. Food-grade plastic works, but I always worry about leaching over years, even if it’s labeled safe. Has anyone tried storing smaller batches in glass versus large containers to see if there’s a difference in taste or freshness after several months?
