Best Ways to Store Water Long Term?

Looking at the different options for long term water storage and feeling a bit overwhelmed by all the info out there. Some folks swear by the blue 55-gallon drums, but then I've read about people using glass, food-grade buckets, or even mylar bags. How do you all handle purification for storage—

Blue 55-gallon drums have worked well for me, just make sure they’re food-grade and kept out of sunlight to avoid algae. I add a little unscented household bleach (about 1/4 teaspoon per gallon) after filling, and rotate the water every 6 months or so, though some say a year is ok. Smaller containers are good for using up space in closets or under beds. Ever tried rain barrel setups? Wondering if folks here have had luck with those for emergencies.

The sheer amount of options out there really does make your head spin. I went with the blue 55-gallon drums too, lined up in the basement and kept well away from stray sunlight. A bit of plain bleach, not too much, is what I settled on for purification—though lately I’ve started looking into those water preserver concentrates folks mention. Anyone know if glass jugs are worth the trouble, or are they just asking for a mess if you’ve got clumsy hands?

Glass works, but one slip and you’re mopping up gallons—just not practical for bulk storage. Anybody tried those stackable water bricks? Wondering how sturdy they really are.
