That blew my mind the first time I read about octopus hearts! Nature really never runs out of surprises, does it? Makes you wonder why humans only got stuck with one heart (maybe upkeep would be too much hassle). Something similar that always fascinated me is how earthworms have five “hearts”—or technically, aortic arches—that pump blood through their bodies. Not quite as glamorous as an octopus, but it’s a good reminder there’s often a lot more going on under the surface than you’d guess.

Thinking about preparedness, I feel like learning about the adaptability of animals can inspire us to think outside the box with our own survival strategies. If an octopus can re-route its blood flow to prioritize different needs, maybe we can be more creative with how we use our resources,
