Introducing Personalized AI Images Derived from Your Own Photos
A new development in artificial intelligence (AI) technology is transforming how users interact with their own images. The AI tool, named Gemini, is now equipped with 'personal intelligence' that allows it to generate unique, custom-made images based on the user's personal photo collection.
How Does It Work?
Gemini applies AI technology to create a more personalized experience for its subscribers. It does this by linking its image-generation model with the user's photo collection. If the user chooses to use this feature, the AI tool can access their photos and associated labels to generate more precise images. This innovative method essentially streamlines the existing process which previously required the user to manually feed the tool with images for context.
With this new feature, Gemini is now able to navigate through the user's photo content to create more accurate AI content. So, if you want to generate new content using your photos, this is an option you might want to consider.
Personal Data Enhances AI Results
It's generally known that adding more personal data to an AI tool tends to yield better results. For instance, linking your photo collection to Gemini can significantly improve the output. This means you no longer need to provide as much context in your prompts. You can simply refer to 'my family' or 'my dog', and the tool will find useful images from your photo library.
Let's say you want to generate a unique family photo. You could type, 'create a claymation image of me and my family enjoying our favorite activity.' In response, Gemini would use labels from your photo collection to identify 'family' and determine the 'favorite activity' from the content of your images.
While you could achieve similar results by explicitly instructing Gemini to include specific people doing a certain thing, the addition of personal intelligence saves you from that extra typing. It makes the process smoother and encourages more frequent use of AI tools.
Still a Work in Progress
While this feature is exciting, it's important to note that it's still evolving. There may be times when Gemini might not select the right images. If this happens, it's suggested to review the list of images referenced in the prompt. If you're still not satisfied, you can ask Gemini why it chose the images it did. Alternatively, you can manually select photos using the plus button in Gemini.
Even though Gemini has access to your photo library, it's assured that the data is not retained for training purposes. The AI tool only utilizes your data in the prompt and does not use any images from your library for training. However, it does use the inputs (what you type) and outputs (what the model produces) to enhance its AI products. This could still include personal data, but it's not the same as using all your photos for training.
Privacy Concerns
For those concerned about privacy, rest assured that you don't have to allow Gemini access to your photo library to generate images. The personal intelligence feature is turned off by default. Currently, it's only available to those on paid AI plans. However, as has been seen in the past, AI features often start on the paid tiers before becoming available to everyone.
Gemini frequently prompts users to enable personal intelligence, so you might see these popups in the future, even if you're not paying for AI. Additionally, personal intelligence can also connect Gemini to other services, but you can choose which ones are allowed when setting it up.
