Realistically, how much food are you all actually storing per person? I’m trying to balance calorie needs with space and shelf life, and would really appreciate some guidance from folks who’ve figured out a practical system. Anyone have recommendations for how to calculate the “right” amount, or tips for keeping rotation manageable?

For me, it’s always come down to what I call “real room and real life.” Charts and checklists are good starting points, but unless you’ve actually looked at your shelves, it’s easy to end up with stuff you’re never going to eat or that goes bad before you use it. I aim for at least 3 months of calories per person as a baseline—roughly 2,000 calories per adult, per day—then build out from there when I’ve got extra space or budget.
