During the night, allied military jets rushed to intercept and shoot down an unmanned aerial vehicle that crossed into Latvian airspace. The flying device was brought down in a rural area in the northeastern part of the country, very close to the border with Russia. This incident occurred around the same time as a large-scale drone conflict nearby, where over 50 drones targeted areas in western Russia, hitting a major shipping port and a large online shopping warehouse.

Because of the ongoing fighting nearby, authorities warned the public that similar events could happen again. When the drone first crossed the border, an emergency alert sounded in four local districts at around 4:00 in the morning. Residents were instructed to take safety precautions immediately:
