Israeli Prime Minister Commands Military to Intensify Strikes on Hezbollah in Lebanon
In the aftermath of a ceasefire extension, Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of Israel, has given his military the green light to intensify their attacks on Hezbollah targets in Lebanon. This directive came in response to the tragic loss of six lives as a result of strikes on southern Lebanon just two days prior.
Fragile Truce Put to the Test
Current tensions reflect the fragile nature of the ceasefire agreement between the two sides. Though the ceasefire has brought about a decrease in attacks rather than a full stop, its extension was agreed upon after discussions between the nations' envoys in the US capital.
However, the situation escalated on the weekend when Israeli forces targeted a truck and a motorbike in the Yohmor al-Shaqeef area of the Nabatieh district. These strikes tragically resulted in the death of four individuals, as confirmed by Lebanon's health department.
An additional two fatalities and 17 casualties were reported following an assault on Safad al-Battikh in the Bint Jbeil district.
Israeli Defense Forces Report Successful Strikes
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the elimination of three Hezbollah members on the same day. These individuals were in a vehicle believed to be carrying weapons, while another member was intercepted on a motorbike.
The IDF also reported the neutralization of two more armed members in the Litani region, where they maintain a self-imposed buffer zone. This action is justified by the IDF as a preventative measure to protect their forces operating in southern Lebanon.
Later, IDF identified a "suspicious aerial target" in the Malkia region, framing it as another violation of the ceasefire agreement.
Hezbollah Retaliates
In response to the attack on Yohmor al-Shaqeef, Hezbollah claimed responsibility for an assault on an Israeli military vehicle in south Lebanon.
Following Prime Minister's Directive, More Strikes Ensue
Post Netanyahu's directive, a flurry of strikes were reported by Lebanon's state-run news agency. These attacks hit two towns within the Bint Jbeil district, one town in the Tyre district, and another couple in the Nabatieh district.
The IDF reaffirmed its commitment to decisively counter any threats against Israeli civilians and IDF soldiers following political directives.

Israel continues to maintain a significant presence in southern Lebanon, where large-scale demolitions have been ongoing.
Concerns Raised Over Attacks on Journalists
A global press advocacy group has expressed its concern over the attacks on journalists in Lebanon, labelling them as "unacceptable". This statement comes after a journalist was among those killed in the recent strikes.
The Media Freedom Coalition, a group of countries including the UK, called for all parties to ensure the safety and freedom of media workers. Co-chairs released a statement condemning all forms of violence directed at journalists and media workers.
