Those jar-in-a-hole cooling hacks really are a throwback to how things were done before electricity, aren’t they? I tried it with carrots and apples last summer, and they stayed fresh much longer than in my usual pantry basket. Love that you can pull it off with just a shovel and a sturdy jar. Also, the solar oven hack—tried baking some flatbread in one of those makeshift models and it actually worked (took longer than I expected, had to rotate it to keep things even, but still!). Haven’t done fruit leather yet, but it’s on my list once I get my hands on some cheap cling wrap.
The creativity packed into this book is honestly impressive. Always figured a soda can was just for the recycling bin, but apparently I was missing out on a whole world of DIY gadgets. Makes me think twice before throwing anything away. Has anyone managed to get more than a dim glow out of the potato battery? Mine was barely enough to blink an LED, but maybe I’m missing
