Top 5 Skills Every Prepper Should Master First

When building your skillset, which five would you say come first—fire starting, water purification, first aid, food preservation, situational awareness, or something else? I know everyone has a different take. Curious what’s at the top of your lists and why.
 
Fire starting is definitely near the top for me—if you can’t stay warm or cook, everything else gets harder fast. Water purification, first aid, and basic food preservation come right after. I’d add gardening too, since growing even a bit of your own food makes a massive difference long-term. Curious if anyone here has tips for teaching kids these skills?
 
Situational awareness gets overlooked but it's huge—you can't use any other skill if you walk into trouble unaware. Curious, does anyone practice simple awareness drills at home?
 
If I had to pick just five skills, I'd put water purification at the very top. You can go a while without food but not without clean water—plus, there's so many ways water can go bad and trip you up. Next for me is basic first aid. Accidents will happen, and having even just a solid grasp of wound care has made a difference for us more than once. I couldn’t agree more with
