Top 5 Skills Everyone Should Master Before SHTF
When it comes to being truly ready for whatever comes, I keep coming back to a handful of skills that seem more crucial than any gear on the shelf. First aid (beyond just knowing how to use a Band-Aid) is at the top of my list—wound care, infection control, recognizing shock. Next for me is water sourcing and purification. I see so many people stockpiling filters, but not practicing actually finding water or boiling with little to no equipment.
Third skill: food preservation—canning, dehydrating, root cellaring, especially if electricity’s down long-term. Fourth, basic self-defense and situational awareness—it doesn’t have to be martial arts, but knowing how to escape or de-escalate is a must. Fifth, community communication and bartering—people skills are overlooked, but mutual aid can save lives.
