What’s Your Go-To Backup Power Source?

Curious what everyone relies on for backup power these days. I’ve got a Goal Zero solar generator with portable panels and a stash of charged power banks, but considering something more robust. For longer outages, does anyone here prefer propane, gas, or solar? Reliability and maintenance are big concerns for me, especially with fluctuating weather. Any input on what

Reliability and maintenance are big concerns for me, especially with fluctuating weather.

Fluctuating weather really is the trickiest part, isn’t it? That’s one reason I lean heavily on a mix of solar and a small propane generator. Solar keeps things ticking for most needs, but when clouds settle in for days, propane’s a lifesaver. You’re right about maintenance—propane’s easier to store than gasoline, but I do check lines every season. Have you ever considered wind power, or is your area too sheltered for that to be reliable?

Mixing solar with propane seems like the sweet spot to me too, especially since solar alone just can't be trusted during a week of gloomy weather. I find propane less finicky than gas, and it stores longer—plus no messing with stabilizers. Never tried wind; our yard’s too sheltered, and I imagine maintenance gets old fast with moving parts. Ever had any issues with propane freezing up in really cold snaps?
