Trump Says US Needs to Start Over in China Trade Talks

Former President Donald Trump called for a full reset of trade and tariff discussions between the United States and China on Thursday. He argued that the current strategy is not successful and that the US must be firmer with China.

Trump Believes Current Policies Are Not Working

"We need a total reset of our trade and tariff negotiations with China," Trump said in his statement. "The current approach is not working, and it is time for the United States to take a much tougher stance to protect American workers and businesses."

Trump Criticizes Biden Administration's Actions

Trump, who put tariffs on hundreds of billions of dollars' worth of Chinese goods during his presidency, said that President Biden has not been tough enough on China. He believes the Biden administration failed to hold China responsible for its trade actions.

"China has taken advantage of the United States for decades, and the Biden administration is letting them get away with it," Trump said. "We need to stand up to China and make it clear that we will not tolerate their unfair trade practices any longer."

Biden Administration Still Uses Some Trump Tariffs

The current administration has kept many of the Trump-era tariffs against China. At the same time, President Biden has also tried to lessen tensions by negotiating with China on topics such as climate change and public health.

US and China Continue Trade Disputes

Trade disagreements between the US and China are still happening. Both countries have put tariffs and other trade limits on each other's goods and services. These issues also include disagreements about technology and other matters.

Trump Urges America to Defend Its Interests

"It is time for the United States to put America first and demand fair and reciprocal trade with China," Trump said. "We cannot allow China to continue to cheat and steal from us any longer."
