What’s The Most Overlooked Prep You Regret Skipping?

Looking back, I completely overlooked spare eyeglasses—big mistake. Anyone else forget essentials that aren’t life-or-death but make all the difference? Would love to hear those "small but critical" items y’all wish you’d stashed sooner.

Toothpaste and floss, of all things! I had plenty of soap and even baking soda, but running low on dental stuff got old real fast. It’s surprising how much you miss clean teeth when you’re focused on bigger problems. Also, sewing needles—tiny but so handy for repairs. Has anyone else had to improvise on little comforts like that?

Totally relate to the dental stuff—ran out of chapstick once and my lips were miserable! Ever tried making your own with beeswax, or is store-bought just easier?

Dental floss always slips my mind too—nothing else really works the same for keeping everything feeling clean. Curious what you ended up using when you ran out, AquaFern1028? I’ve tried thread, but it’s just not the same.

Dental floss really is one of those things you just don’t appreciate until it’s gone. I tried using thread once too, and honestly, it was a miserable substitute—too thin and it frays, gets stuck, you name it. It’s funny how the tiniest comforts make such a difference when routines are upended. TeaTimeTalisman, have you ever managed to find a good homemade alternative or just decided it’s worth stashing more next time? I’m thinking of adding a few extra spools to every kit after reading this.

Toothpaste and floss, of all things!

Absolutely with you on spare eyeglasses! For years, I just relied on my main pair, assuming they’d hold up. Then a simple mishap (tripped over the cat, go figure) left me half-blind for days until I could replace them. Never again—now I keep an old prescription pair stashed in my bug-out bag, just in case.

It’s easy to focus on water, food, and

Hand moisturizer is my big miss—never realized how fast dry, cracked hands get painful during a stretch without it. Anyone found a good DIY option that actually helps?

Absolutely agree on chapstick and hand lotion—never thought cracked skin could be so distracting. Ever tried coconut oil? Works for lips, hands, and even a bit in coffee.
