What’s the One Prep You Wish You’d Started Sooner?

Looking back, I really wish I'd started water storage a lot earlier. It's not just about having a few bottles tucked away—proper filtration, rotation, and enough for sanitation makes a huge difference. Has anyone else underestimated how much water they’d actually need for even a short-term emergency? Curious what other preps folks put off or overlooked, especially in the early stages of your planning.

Absolutely relate to underestimating water needs. The first time I tried to calculate how much I'd actually use for drinking, cooking, and hygiene, I was way off—didn’t even think about things like washing hands or dishes at first! What really surprised me was how quickly a few gallons disappear if you’re trying to keep even a little bit clean. I started focusing on food storage way before water, but honestly, eating dehydrated meals without enough water just doesn’t work.

Filtration is something else folks overlook. I used to think a few jugs from the store would cover me, but once you start rotating them and thinking long-term, it gets complicated fast. Now I keep a gravity filter handy and back up purification tablets, just in case. Anyone else realize how bulky water storage can be? I’m still figuring out the best places to stash my containers so they don’t end up leaking somewhere inconvenient. Wish I’d prioritized this from the get-go—now it’s a top concern every season.
