What’s Your Go-To Backup Water Source?
When the tap runs dry, what’s everyone’s backup plan for water? I keep two 55-gallon barrels with rotation every 6 months, but I’ve been thinking it might not be enough if something long-term hits. I bought a Berkey filter for river or pond water, but there’s a creek a quarter mile away and I’m not as spry as I used to be. Hauling water that distance isn’t easy.
For those who rely on nearby natural sources, how do you manage transport and purification, especially if you’re solo? Has anyone tried those collapsible wagons or any other system that works well for rough ground? Also curious if anyone’s set up rain catchment barrels with first flush diverters on a small lot—did you have any issues with local regs or setup?
Would love to hear what backup(s) you trust most, and any practical tips for making water access manageable for older folks. Figured it’s better to iron out the kinks now than in the middle of a crisis!
