What’s Your Go-To Backup Water Source?

Always had a main rainwater catchment, but lately I’ve been second-guessing what my best backup should be if that system fails or needs maintenance. I keep a few cases of bottled water, but that obviously won’t last long in a real emergency. I’ve looked into portable water tanks and even those “bladders” that go in the bathtub. What’s actually worked for you all as a reliable secondary source? Curious if anyone has creative setups I might not have considered yet.

Old well out back still pumps with a hand pump, definitely my go-to if rainwater's not an option. Anyone ever tried purifying water from an ornamental pond in a pinch?

I’ve definitely given thought to using the pond out back if things got really bad. With a decent filter and some solid boiling, it’s possible, but you have to watch out for stuff like algae blooms and chemical runoff—those can be a real headache. I wouldn’t make it my first choice, but in a pinch, it’ll do. Anyone know if those UV pen purifiers work on pond water, or are they just for clear sources?
