What’s Your Go-To Emergency Food That Actually Tastes Good?

So many emergency rations out there taste like cardboard, but I keep going back to Mountain House chicken and rice. Easy to make, fills you up, and doesn’t leave that weird aftertaste. Anyone else found a freeze-dried or canned meal that's actually enjoyable, not just tolerable? Looking to add some variety to the stockpile without wasting money on stuff nobody wants to eat. I keep a solid stash of canned chili—Wolf Brand, if you can find it—because it actually tastes like something you’d eat by choice, not just in an emergency. Doesn’t need fancy prep, either. Sardines packed in olive oil are another winner, plenty of flavor and protein for the size. Anyone tried those ready-to-eat Indian curries in pouches? Always wondered if those are any good for the long haul.
 
Those Indian curry pouches are actually a solid option—Tasty Bite’s chana masala is surprisingly flavorful, even without rice. I’ve tried them straight from the pouch in a pinch and didn’t regret it. Agree on the sardines, too, they’re ridiculously versatile for the size. Anyone else have luck with canned dolmas or stuffed grape leaves? They’re a nice change from the usual beans and stew.
 
Those Tasty Bite pouches really are a solid choice–I’ve got a few different flavors in my stockpile, and they break up the “rice and beans” rut. Chana masala and madras lentils both get eaten even when it’s not an emergency. I’ve also been surprised by how good canned dolmas can be, especially if you chill them first (though obviously that’s not always possible if the power’s out). They’re a nice treat after too much chili and stew.
