What’s Your Go-To Item in a Blackout?

When the power goes out, first thing I grab is my hand-crank lantern. No batteries to worry about. Curious what single item folks here reach for first—solar charger, oil lamp, something else? Always looking to improve my setup.

That hand-crank lantern is a smart move—mine’s always in arm’s reach, too. I like that you don’t have to depend on batteries, especially if the blackout drags on. For me, though, I grab my battery-powered
 
Oil lamps are my number one for blackouts. I keep a couple stashed in key spots around the house, along with a little jug of lamp oil (smells nicer than kerosene, and somehow feels cozier). Candles are handy, but I find the steady glow from an oil lamp makes it much easier to read or move around safely at night—plus, you can adjust the brightness.
