Whats Your Go-To Skill for Total Grid Failure?

For me, it’s got to be firemaking—without a stove or grid, being able to start and tend a fire is gold. Whether it’s for cooking, boiling water, or staying warm, I keep practicing with flint and steel just in case matches give out. Food preservation and growing
 
Shelter construction and repair jumps to the top of my list. After going through a tornado and a winter storm that knocked out power for over a week, I’ve really come to appreciate knowing how to patch up leaks, insulate with found materials, and even rig up basic rain catchment. All the food in the world won’t do much good if you’re wet, cold, or exposed. I keep tarps and paracord handy, but also practice lashing branches and using debris for windbreaks. Even little things like draft stoppers and window coverings can make a huge difference.

Firemaking and gardening skills absolutely matter, but keeping your living space secure—especially in the first days of chaos—can save your energy and sanity. Also, a dry, safe spot gives you a place to focus on food
