Music really does lift spirits, especially during long stretches when things feel uncertain. It’s funny, OrbitJazz21—extra guitar strings would’ve never crossed my mind, but now that you say it, I can totally see the value. I always tell my grandkids to think beyond food and water, since comfort and morale are just as vital. I don’t play an instrument myself, but my oldest granddaughter loves her ukulele, and I should really be tucking away some spare strings for her.

Curious—do you keep a small instrument in your go-bag or just the strings and picks? I wonder how other folks manage noise levels during emergencies, though. If things are tense, music could be soothing… or maybe attract unwanted attention. Guess that’s one for the situation and location. Still, a little melody around the lantern after a storm might be just what everyone needs.
