What’s Your Most Overlooked Prep Item?

Every year I try to reevaluate what’s stored away and what gaps I’ve overlooked, and it amazes me how easily some basics slip through the cracks. People talk up food, water, and first aid, but I’ve realized things like manual can open

Socks! I know it sounds silly, but decent, comfortable socks are one of those things you don’t really notice until your feet are miserable. Wet or worn-out socks can ruin your morale faster than a cold meal. I keep a stash of good wool socks in my go-bag and rotate them when the seasons change (it’s surprising how fast even the “good” ones wear down if you actually have to walk anywhere).

Another one I tend to prioritize is a small sewing kit—needles, strong thread, a thimble if you have one. Being able to mend clothes and gear on the fly is a skill I picked up from my grandmother and it’s saved my bacon a few times. It doesn’t take up much room, and it’s useful for so much more than patching pants.

Curious if anyone else finds small hand tools get overlooked? I’m not talking big axes or saws, just simple multi-tools and a sturdy pair of scissors. Always amazed how often they come in handy, especially in gardening and small repairs.
