Water definitely tops my list, too. I’ve seen how quickly municipal systems can get overloaded after just a minor storm, so in a real grid-down event, I don’t want to rely on luck. Besides the Berkey and a couple of Sawyer filters, I keep a stash of unscented bleach for backup purification (never hurts to have options if filters clog or break). I also cached some rain collection barrels in the backyard—those have come in handy even during regular dry spells!
Lighting is another thing I focus on. Solar lanterns and a crank radio/flashlight give me peace of mind. Candles are nice, but they make me nervous about fire risk, especially if you’re dealing with stress or kids around.
