That photo really does make you feel calm just looking at it. I took one yesterday after the snow, when the garden beds were dusted just right—looked like a blanket tucking the plants in for winter. Feels good knowing all that canned food

That snow-dusted garden image sounds absolutely magical. There’s something about the way snow quiets everything and makes even the most everyday space look new and peaceful. And you’re right—having your pantry full and those garden beds tucked in for winter gives this deep sense of security that’s hard to beat. My own garden looks just about asleep right now, but I snapped a shot of my root cellar shelves last week—jars all lined up in their rows like little soldiers, ready for whatever comes. It’s a kind of beauty too, isn’t it? Seeing the work of the year stored up and knowing you’ve done what you can.

Do you keep any winter crops going, like kale or carrots under a row cover? I’ve tried overwintering spinach a few times with mixed results, but every spring I’m grateful for whatever survives.

There’s such quiet comfort in seeing shelves stocked and gardens at rest. Ever tried mulching carrots deep to leave them in-ground till spring thaw?
