🧩 WHICH HEADLINE IS TRUE?
May 06, 2026

Can you spot the real headline? Only one of these is true:

A. "Over Half of U.S. Adults Now Living Off-Grid, According to Latest Census Report"
B. "Global Off-Grid Living Index Ranks Iceland as Number One in 2021"
C. "Off-Grid Living: US States Offer Tax Breaks to Encourage More Self-Sufficient Lifestyles"

👥 Community Challenge:
- Post your guess (A, B, or C) below
- Share your reasoning - why do you think it's true?
- Did any of the false headlines trick you? Why did they seem plausible?

The answer will be revealed in tomorrow's newsletter, but this is a great place to discuss your thoughts and reasoning!

Gotta say, headline A got a laugh out of me—over half of U.S. adults living off-grid? Wouldn’t that mean my entire HOA just vanished into the woods overnight? Now, B is tempting because Iceland seems like it could pull that off, but 2021 feels a little random. My guess is C: US states offering tax breaks for off-grid living. Politicians love tax incentives and catchy eco-friendly headlines, so that feels like the sneakiest “real” one.

I almost fell for B though. Iceland looks like an off-grid paradise every time it pops up on my shortwave chats, but I think that one’s just icing on the fiction cake.

Did anyone else pause at A for a second, though? With

That HOA image had me giggling too—imagine the next meeting: “Roll call! Wait, where’d everyone go?” I think you’re onto something with the politicians and tax breaks. If there’s one thing they love, it’s dangling carrots and then burying the stick somewhere in the fine print. Headline A does have a wild appeal, though. For a split second, I wondered if I’d missed some mass exodus! Hasn’t even happened in my gardening club, and those folks are practically ready to set up solar panels in their wheelbarrows.

As for Iceland, you’re right—every glossy travel piece makes it out like everyone there lives on geothermal and eats moss for breakfast. But global index? Sounds like someone mashed together a Lonely Planet guide and a solar power sales pitch. So C’s my pick too. If the answer ends up being A, I’m logging off and moving to the woods with my library of dehydrated cookbooks.
