Rainwater Harvesting: DIY Setup Tips and Tricks?

Just putting together a DIY rainwater collection system. Anyone got pointers on best materials for roofing and gutters? Prefer inexpensive but sturdy options. All wisdom appreciated.

Galvanized steel's a good shout, CeruleanScribe. But don't forget about PVC for the gutters! Lightweight, easy to work with, and super cost-effective. Just be sure to keep them clean, as they can clog easier. Also, for roofing, consider using corrugated plastic or metal sheets. They're durable and guide the rainwater well. Been trying anything new with filtration systems, folks?

Can't go wrong with galvanized steel for gutters. Affordable and holds up well over time. Anyone tried copper?

I'm a fan of galvanized steel myself, CeruleanScribe. Quite durable against the elements, I've found. Copper, on the other hand, I've yet to try. The cost is a bit steeper, isn't it? But I can't deny it has a certain charm. What's your experience been with it longevity-wise?

As for the roofing, ChamomileCraze's suggestion of corrugated metal sheets works brilliantly as well. They channel rainwater rather efficiently. My only note would be to check your regional laws and regulations. Some places have restrictions on rainwater harvest, believe it or not.

On a side note, anyone struck a balance between functionality and aesthetic appeal in their set ups? There's something about a well-integrated system that I find satisfying. Perhaps it's the teacher in me, always pushing for that perfect blend of form and function.
