There's a big change coming to the top management at a leading technology company. CEO Tim Cook is calling it a day and handing over the reins to John Ternus. The announcement was made official recently, declaring Ternus as the future head honcho.
Cook isn't going too far, though. He'll transition into a new role as the executive chairman of the company's board of directors. The CEO baton will be passed to Ternus on the 1st of September.
Cook's Farewell Message
In his parting message, Cook said, "Serving as the CEO of this extraordinary company has been the most gratifying experience of my life." He praised the incoming CEO, saying, "John Ternus possesses the analytical mind of an engineer, the creativity of an innovator, and the heart of a true leader. His significant contributions to the company in the past 25 years are countless, making him the perfect choice to guide us into the future."
Since 2011, Cook has led the company, during which time it has seen its market value grow from $350 billion to a whopping $4 trillion.
Meet the New CEO, John Ternus
John Ternus isn't a new face at the company. He's been with them since 2001 and was appointed Vice President of Hardware Engineering in 2013. Ternus has been a key part of numerous product lines, including the iPad, wireless earbuds, and the company's smartwatch.
Ternus expressed his gratitude for the opportunity, saying, "I am deeply honored to carry on the company’s mission." He talked about working under the company's founder, Steve Jobs, and referred to Cook as his mentor. Ternus expressed his excitement about the future, saying, "I am brimming with optimism for what we can accomplish in the coming years. I am thrilled to have the most talented team in the industry by my side, all of us united by a purpose bigger than ourselves."
Reflections on Company's Legacy and Future
Last month, Cook reflected on the company's impressive 50-year journey. He said, "It's quite a marvel to think about our company's longevity."
When asked about the company's significant achievements over the past five decades, Cook highlighted its trailblazing innovations across various industries. He said, "You can focus on the landmark products, revolutionizing music, reshaping the smartphone, bringing creative arts and graphics to the forefront, and even saving lives with our smartwatch."
Despite rumors of his imminent departure, Cook had previously expressed his deep love for his work. He said, "I've loved every single day of the 28 years I've spent at this company. We've had our highs and lows, but the people I work with are simply outstanding. They bring out the best in me, and hopefully, I do the same for them. I can't imagine life without this company."
