What’s In Your Go-Bag Right Now?

Swapped out some older meds for fresher ones just last week—painkillers, antihistamines, and a couple of tinctures I make myself (yarrow and echinacea mostly). Upped my water filtration game too, since I’m not keen on risking bad water. Always keep a tiny sewing kit and a few herbal salves for cuts or burns. Anyone else finding it harder to get decent quality bandages lately?

Not just you, good bandages are scarce lately—been making do with gauze and old sheets. Do your herbal salves work well for burns, or is there one you like most?

Swapping out meds is top of my list too—rotating the painkillers and allergy tablets, plus I’ve started vacuum sealing a few extra. Water filter is the Sawyer Mini for me, lightweight and reliable. Bandages are a real struggle lately; ended up cutting an old pillowcase into strips and packing those. Has anyone tried carrying a compact headlamp instead of a flashlight? Thinking of making that switch for hands-free use.

Curious what folks are packing these days—what’s actually in your go-bag right now?

Right now, my go-bag is pretty focused on medical and water needs, since those seem to be where shortages hit hardest. I keep a sturdy water filter bottle and a couple of smaller Sawyer Minis tucked in, plus a pack of water purification tablets as backup. First aid is still top priority for me—rotate out expired meds, keep plenty of bandages (though the quality’s iffy, like others have said—I’ve resorted to vacuum-sealing homemade cloth strips), and a small bottle of wound wash. There’s also a couple of N95 masks, a compact headlamp, extra batteries, and a multitool I wouldn’t be without.

Food-wise, just high-calorie bars, a few packs of nuts, and some instant coffee (can’t give that up). I scaled back on heavy gear in favor of lighter clothing and a collapsible rain poncho—just seems smarter as I get older.

Anyone else wondering about adding a solar charger? I’m hesitant about the weight, but having my phone for emergency info feels more important lately. Would love to hear if anyone’s found a good, durable one that’s not a brick.
