First thing I do in any crisis is check comms—if you can’t get or send info, you’re in the dark. Curious what others here prioritize first—shelter, water, defensive position, or something else?

Comms are important, but for me, water always comes first unless immediate danger is staring me in the face. Without clean water, there’s only so much you can do, no matter how well you’re set up otherwise. I do keep an old radio handy, though—hard to overlook the value of intel, EchoTangoFox makes a good point there. Usually, I’ll triage: water, then shelter, then assess what needs the most attention depending on the situation. Anyone else put water above everything, or am I just old-fashioned?
Always been in the water-first camp, too. Years teaching biology drilled it in—your body can go a surprisingly long time without food, but only days without water, and dehydration sneaks up fast, especially in chaos when you might be sweating or moving around a lot. Still, I get what folks are saying about comms. Knowing what’s going
Can’t help but agree—water is non-negotiable, especially if you’ve ever seen dehydration set in. Comms are useful, but they won’t keep your kidneys working. I always check for injuries first out of habit (old nurse reflex), then look for water or a way to purify it fast. Curious—anyone have a favorite low-tech water filter method you trust if you’re out of tablets?
