Most Overlooked Skills You Wish You’d Learned Sooner

Wish I’d picked up more skills around small engine repair years ago. It’s not just about chainsaws or generators — even the pressure canner can throw a gasket at the worst time. I find myself having to Google fixes or hunt for the one neighbor who knows what they’re doing. Which skills do you all now consider essential, that you ignored at first? Anything you wish you’d learned before it became a necessity?
 
Never thought I'd say this, but knot tying is one of those basic skills I completely underestimated. Figured it was just for sailors or Scouts, but there’s been more than a few times I wished I knew more than just the standard shoelace knot. Tarp shelters, bundling firewood, even fixing a snapped clothesline after a storm — all of it requires at least a sturdy knot or two. I always mean to practice,
