Water sourcing and purification is what I count on most when everything goes dark. After tending gardens most of my life, I realized pretty quickly that you can have all the food you want, but without clean water, nothing else matters much. In grid-down situations, the tap stops working and wells may need hand pumps—so I always keep a manual water filter, some old-fashioned purification tablets, and a rain catchment setup ready to go.
