What’s Your Top Priority When Disaster Strikes?

When disaster hits, my first move is always to secure water—either by gathering what I have or setting up collection systems. Food and shelter come next, but I know opinions differ depending on the situation. For those who’ve dealt with real emergencies, do you focus on defense first or immediate needs like water and warmth? I’m curious how you set priorities when every minute counts. Does

First thing I do is check comms—if you can’t get info or contact anyone, you’re flying blind. Water’s next, but I always want that radio running first. Anyone else keep radios prepped?

Immediate needs like water and warmth usually come first for me, unless the situation is actively dangerous—then I pivot to security. Defense is essential, but I’ve found you can’t think straight if you’re cold, thirsty, or in shock. I get where you’re coming from, ChrysanthiDream; priorities can shift fast depending on what’s unfolding. If I’m indoors and things feel safe, it’s water/heat, but if there’s any threat outside, I brace the doors and get eyes on the exits before anything else. There’s no one-size-fits-all, but those basics save lives.
